Discussion Topic:
Can you think of a time when you successfully completed a task due to good time management? How about a time when you were not as successful? What do you wish you could have done differently? Think about time management as it applies to you, and especially as it applies to you as an online student. This week, the reading focused on “Making the Most of Your Time,” a key element of success for any college student, but one particularly important to online learning and the balancing of priorities for success. The video you watched showcased SNHU leaders discussing their own thoughts and insights on time management, a highly personal and unique practice for each person!

Keep practicing the skills you learned in learning block 1-2: How to Craft a Successful Discussion Post and Response. Also use the skills you learned last week in the “How to Use Rubric Feedback for Growth” video before crafting your discussion posts. Open up your rubric and review your instructor’s feedback now to see which areas are working well and which ones need to be strengthened.

Initial Post: (Due Thursday, by 11:59 p.m.)
With this in mind, answer the following:

  • Share why time management skills are so important to online students in particular. (Feel free to use examples from the e-book and/or video to support your ideas.)
  • Specifically identify one practice from the reading that you have not tried yet but would like to use as a personal approach to time management for our course. Mention keeping a Master Calendar
  • Why did you pick this practice, and how do you think it will help you in strengthening time management?

Initial Post Success Tip:
Some things to consider include the following (you do not need to answer all of these questions; they are here to guide you in this part of the discussion):

  • There are many ideas about time management techniques in this chapter (to-do lists, time logs, priority lists, etc.) that you can choose from.
  • How does the time management technique you identified support your primary learning style (or styles) as identified in Week 1’s SmarterMeasure assessment?

Two Peer Response Posts: (Due Sunday, by 11:59 p.m.)
After you have posted your initial response to the discussion prompt, respond to at least two (2) classmates. In your responses to your classmates, be sure to address the following:

  • Review your classmates’ specific selections for a new time management skill to try, as well as their explanation for why they plan to try it in connection with time management and learning styles. Then, respond to that choice with your own ideas about their selection.
    • What strengths does their choice highlight?
    • Where might they still need to fill in gaps to build on overall time management skills?
  • Offer one additional time management technique from the reading that was not offered already in their post and that you feel would support their learning style, and explain why you selected it for them as a recommendation.
