We have all experienced waiting in line for our turn to be serviced for something: from grocery lines to technical support help desks. All of these lines are usually first come/first serve or first-in/first-out (FIFO), which is the protocol used for a queue data structure. Queues have many computer related applications. In order to understand these, it helps to see the various queues we experience in everyday life. You may not have thought about it, but computer applications of course don’t mind waiting in line, only people do. After you have read the section in the textbook and notes on queues, read the article “Why Waiting is Torture†(Links to an external site.) in The New York Times by Gray Matter. Although, not specifically computer related, the article will give you an idea on how queues work. The article discusses an interesting approach to handle complaints for long wait times. For this discussion, you can mention your thoughts on this article, or discuss another common computer related or non-computer related application of a queue (or priority queue) that you can think of.
Try to discuss things that were not previously mentioned by others. In addition to your response, post a response to at least two other posts from your classmates.
