This course will examine how tests and assessments are used in I/O psychology. There will be concepts, techniques, and challenges associated with choosing, administering, scoring, and interpreting different types of assessments. You will be expected to use library resources to find scholarly sources, such as journal articles, and integrate the ideas expressed in those publications into your own writing, while giving proper credit to the original authors of course. You will also be expected to know and follow APA style for writing and citing sources.


This requires a substantive, referenced written response with a minimum of 250 words per DQ. as well as reading the writings of other students and responding to at least their primary postings. Additionally, you must read the writings of all other students and respond in a substantive way to at least two of their primary postings. Your responses should contribute scholarly to the discussion by challenging a position, providing additional support, or taking the debate in a new but reasonable direction.

All DQ responses to be supported by current research, i.e. journal articles published within the last 10 years.

In your DQ responses, do not use recently published journal articles for support; using articles I provide as additional readings do not count toward this requirement. An additional twenty points will be deducted from your weekly points if sources are not properly cited. These sources should be integrated into your response, not simply placed in a sentence within the response.

Murphy (2010) discussed broad dimensions of individual differences that are likely to be relevant for understanding performance effectiveness and development in the workplace and delineates two general strategies for determining what to assess in organizations.

Explore the UIW library database resources: PsycInfo; Business Source Complete; Mental Measurements Yearbook; SAGE Journals online; Social Science Database; and Test Reviews Online. Find an assessment focusing on organizations (culture; satisfaction; communication; etc.) or individuals (job matching; personality; cognitive ability, etc.). What information is available regarding the chosen assessment? How did you go about finding this assessment? How would you use this assessment if consulting an organization or coaching an individual? The intent of this DQ is to familiarize students with using the UIW Library to search for assessments, as we will do this throughout the term.
