Part I

In an essay of approximately 200–300 words or about one page, answer the following questions:

What are the values expressed in Lincoln’s “Second Inaugural Address”? How do the passages from the text try to persuade you to accept these values?

What are the values expressed in Barack Obama’s “A More Perfect Union”? How do the passages from the text try to persuade you to accept these values?

What do these two speeches have in common, in terms of values and in terms of persuasive strategies?

Part II

For the Cultural Commonplaces speech:

The artifact I selected is a baseball.

Goal is to reference my culture (Puerto Rico) and how baseball bring us together, etc…

Consider the cultural artifact you will analyze for your Cultural Commonplaces speech. Make a list of five values that you think are expressed by the artifact and explain how they are expressed by the artifact. Your answer should be approximately 200-300 words or about one page.

All papers should be Word-processed in Times New Roman with 12-point font and indented paragraphs and, if you use scholarly articles to support your argument, cited in the style you are most familiar with (such as APA, MLA, or Chicago). Include a word count in your submission. All papers must be free from typographical and spelling mistakes. Errors of grammar, syntax, and composition affect the assignment grade.
