hrm in hospitality two discussions

Discussion 1:

DB #3 Susan Van Buren

Dr. Van Buren will spend some time with us discussion the training process and organizational development component of our course. This coincides with chapters 6 & 7 with your text book. Please share your thoughts, insights, and questions with us on this discussion board. She has also welcomed any questions or follow-up through her email which is posted at the end of the video. She was my training manager when I was with Abbott/Resortquest (now Wyndham Resorts) and she has been in the hospitality field (both military & private sector) for more than 12 years. She is currently at an electric cooperative in the Northwest Florida region.

Podcast #3_Work?

The world economy is more productive than ever before. (Links to an external site.)

A lot of people could work fewer hours and still meet their basic needs. But we don’t. Why? (Links to an external site.)

Economist John Maynard Keynes published an optimistic essay in 1930 called “Economic Possibilities for Our Grandchildren (Links to an external site.).” Keynes thought that by now we might be working just 15 hours a week.

Keynes never had kids. But we talked with two of his sister’s grandchildren. Like most of us, they work more than 15 hours. What did Keynes get wrong?

Please share with the class your thoughts on Why we work? Where do you fit in on the spectrum of balance of work-life-play conundrum?
