team concept to maximize overall organizational performance through the
combined efforts of people. The old adage, “Two heads are better than one” has
proven to be a valid statement, as organizations strive to face the many
challenges in the internal and external environments.

In this discussion question, please find an article in the
Library relating to high performance teams. If possible, try to find an article
on high performance teams in the type of business you selected for your
business plan. Answer the following questions relating to the article and your
own experience with business teams:

    describe the background for the article you researched and explain why

Hi Professor and Class,

Teamwork unites creativity. More companies are using teamwork to gain another
perspective of their ideas. The article I chose deals with families and
children experiencing emotional and behavioral problems. This article
deals with coping more effectively within groups. As much as one on one can
present a more personal experience, some may identify more effectively knowing
that others can relate or present them with a better understanding on life. In
the article it talks about the barrier some parents face when approaching
problems. Establishing a leadership group that reflects upon actions and
repercussions gives children another perspective that they may be able to
understand better coming from the group environment versus their parent.
“Through their training, professionals develop an area of specialization
that places them in the role of expert in the intervention
process”(Ruffolo, Kuhn & Evans, 2006).

Some characteristics of high performance teams would be everyone having
effective communication and being on one accord. Being able to ask questions
regarding any uncertainties or needed guidance. Seeing a business flow smoothly
and productively. Knowing when to ask for help and learning from mistakes.
Putting together ideas that can help the business as a whole. Some weaknesses
would be slacking from team members, If their is a more dominant player they
may try to take control of projects and other ideas ma not be expressed. 

My own experiences with teams are being very effective IF everyone plays their
part. It can go either way good or bad. From the beginning, everyone needs to
understand that in order to be effective everyone must play a part.

Hello Class and Professor, 

My one year plan is to become a senior manager for my firm.
At this time, I manage a team of brokers who communicate with the public,
troubleshoot client’s issues and place trades for our customers. I also mentor
and train other managers and supervisors in leadership and general management
responsibilities, building their teams and conflict resolution.

A senior manager is a function in which a person manages
managers who manage their own teams. So it would be a person who manages a few
people such as myself and is responsible for a line of business. This can be a
very big job as the head count increases exponentially and the risk is much
higher at that level of management.

I have the skills necessary to perform this job, as I have
been a manager and of assistance to my senior managers for a while. My next
step will be to demonstrate to senior managers and directors that I posses the
ability to envelop a whole line of business mentally and demonstrate my
strategic abilities.

The steps I will continue to take are being proactive in
identifying areas of improvement, creating solutions, considering the health of
our company overall and improve performance in our line of business by
coaching, directing, supporting and mentoring all involved.

I have become a mentor to many people at my company, local
or overseas. I have traveled oversees and set up teams to support our
operations for a 24/7 production to increase revenues, while saving the
company. I am looked to for support and problem resolution and in some ways am
considered a senior manager by the level of permissions and decision making
authority I have been granted. My next step will be to continue to refine my
strategies and apply for a position as it becomes available.
