You have been hired to facilitate the development of a new employee
tracking system for a La Saveur coffee shop. La Saveur sells Italian
style espresso beverages through its company-operated retail stores.
Being a 24/7 store, it has employees working in several shifts, and
manually tracking the number of hours each employee works in a month has
become an increasingly difficult task. Therefore the store has decided
to put in place an employee tracking system.

The following are the business requirements of La Saveur’s employee tracking system:

  • Manager should be able to schedule shifts.
  • Employees cannot be allowed to work more than eight hours per day.
  • Cashiers can be scheduled to work either in morning, afternoon, or evening shift.
  • Employees cannot work more than three weekends in a row.
  • All employees must have a unique employee identifier (ID).
  • The system must keep at least one year of historical data regarding actual hours worked by employee.
  • The information system must be able to inform the number of hours an employee has worked upon entering the employee’s last name.

After
reviewing business requirements of the employee tracking system,
prepare a three- to four-page project assessment report in Microsoft
Word and include answers to the following questions:

  • What do
    you think are the potential issues that could arise while developing the
    required employee tracking system and how could they be overcome?
  • What
    do you think would be the biggest challenge for a project manager in
    this system, and how would you as a project manager overcome it?
  • What
    would be the benefits of such a system? After assessing its pros and
    cons, would you recommend its development and implementation? Why or why
    not?
