Applicants will be considered for two vacant positions, 60082159 and 65023973.
As
a Collection Support Specialist, you support the collection process
and are responsible for resolving delinquent taxpayer accounts through
inbound and outbound telephone calls, written correspondence and public
contact within the Hickory Service Center location. You work in a call
queue to answer general questions from taxpayers and representatives
regarding collection cases.Your duties include:
- Answering
telephone calls from taxpayers on issues relating to filing reports,
making payments, notices received, account balances and adjustments, and
tax law - Advise taxpayers (individual and businesses) of
collection policies/procedures, tax laws and regulations regarding
delinquent taxes - Correspond with taxpayers by mail or telephone
to secure non-filed (delinquent) business returns. Warrants and
garnishments are ordered when it is determined this is the appropriate
collection action - Establish payment plans with taxpayers based on standard operating procedures
- Research assets and verify liens on taxpayers

- Able to acquire and maintain a basic level of technical knowledge of all tax laws of North Carolina
- Able to clearly convey information to taxpayers and their representatives
- Able to explain and promote the state’s position on issues and yet remain sensitive to taxpayers’ rights
- Able to quickly learn and master new software systems, such as the Department’s Integrated Tax Administration System
- Intermediate skill level using Microsoft Word, Excel, and MS Office in general
- Able to build strong working relationships with peers, internal and external customers, and all levels of management
- Able
to maintain rational behavior during interactions with taxpayers and
demonstrate courteous, professional and efficient behavior while dealing
with controversial matters and irate customers - Aptitude to deal with confidential matters tactfully and with good judgment
- Competent working on multiple tasks, organizing priorities, and meeting project deadlines
- Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school diploma or General
Educational Development (GED) diploma and four years of related
administrative experience; or equivalent combination of education and
experience.MANAGEMENT PREFERENCE:
- Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or a related field
- Technical tax administrative knowledge and experience
